To this day, Sweden still lacks a unified public legal information system. Anyone building services or conducting research with legal information must therefore navigate multiple providers and handle everything from APIs and XML files to scraping web pages and parsing PDF documents.
Lagdata is collaborative documentation that gathers practical and technical knowledge on accessing and reusing Swedish legal information as machine-readable data. It maps primary and secondary sources and covers legislation, preparatory works (förarbeten), government steering documents and commonly used external data sources.
The aim is to lower the barrier for public authorities, researchers, journalists, developers and civic tech projects. Both the documentation and its source code are open, and contributions are welcome.
